Churchill Downs Adds European Path to Derby

Churchill Downs is eager to stimulate added international interest in next year's Kentucky Derby through the creation of a path to gain a berth for horses based in Europe and the expansion of its current series for Japan's top dirt horses.

Champion Songbird Retired

Two-time Eclipse Award champion Songbird has been retired from racing after recent X-rays revealed damage to her hind suspensories and a bone chip, owner Rick Porter announced Aug. 31.

Harmonize Seeks Glens Falls Rebound

Larkin Armstrong's Harmonize, bred by Jack Swain III, seeks to rebound off a fourth in the July 22 Diana Stakes (G1T) at the Spa in the Sept. 2 Glens Falls Stakes (G3T) at 1 3/8 miles. Swain is also represented by his grade 3-placed homebred Lottie.

Lukas Has Sporting Chance in Hopeful Stakes

Sporting Chance will aim to give trainer D. Wayne Lukas his eighth win in the  $350,000 Hopeful Stakes when he breaks from post 6 in a field of eight for the 113th edition of test on the closing day of the Saratoga Race Course meeting.
