Angel Morales, FHBPA Groom of the Month

Groom Angel Morales helped owner/trainer Jerry Bozzo get Cotton Tooyah to the winner’s circle at GPW on October 11, 2018

The FHBPA is pleased to recognize Angel Morales as the Groom of the Month for October. The 43-year-old native of Mexico has been plying his trade on the Calder/GPW backstretch for the past 25 years, including a long tenure with Daniel Hurtack for whom he scored 21 wins in one season with horses under his care. For the last 10 years he has been in the barn of Jerry Bozzo, or “Mr. B” as he calls him.

Jerry was quick to point out that, “Angel is my right hand man,” and that “he oversees all of the horses in the barn.” Jerry appreciates that the FHBPA recognizes the dedication of backstretch workers.

Angel is married to his wife Marebele and they have 3 children, son Angel Jr. (18), and daughters Carla (15) and Denise (12). When notified that he would be receiving the award, Angel’s comments were, “wow, really, that feels very, very, good.” He is looking forward to being honored after this Friday’s 1st race and, as an added bonus, will be sending out “Cotton Tooyah” in Friday’s 8th race.

Our congratulations to Angel Morales on a job well done.
