Charles Simon was elected to the FHBPA Board in 2017. He currently serves as Secretary and is a member of the Election/Nominating, Backstretch and Legislative committees.
Simon spent his early years in Saratoga Springs where he initially worked on a farm then moved to the backside.
Simon is a trainer and owner. The best horse he has trained was Battle Won. His top performing horse as an owner was Aire Bueno.
Simon ran for the FHBPA Board because he was motivated to participate in the decision-making process. “I feel it’s a critical time for the future of racing in South Florida and the choices we are making will have a lasting impact, either positive or negative,” says Simon. “Also, I felt that Palm Meadows horsemen needed more representation on the Board as it’s a major component of the Championship meet and has growing importance as the Gulfstream Park West meet is phased out.”
Simon’s goals are to work with all parties including the track and breeders to create the best racing program possible. “I want to help grow the sport by expanding ownership while also recognizing that the people betting on our races are providing most of the revenue that we are competing for,” said Simon. “I feel that we need to take ownership of the sport that we are providing . . . and should have a say in how that product is offered.”
Simon is a graduate of the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona where he received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.
Simon resides in Parkland, Fla.
